New Moon In Virgo

New Moon in Virgo

As an Earth sign associated with purity, self-care, wellness, and service to others, the New Moon in Virgo is a time to work on ourselves.

There is nothing selfish about taking time for yourself. Sometimes you need to put yourself first.

The Virgo New Moon gives us permission to withdraw, recharge our batteries, and balance our energy so that we can better serve the people and the causes that we care so deeply about.

The New Moon is a time to set intentions, commit to making changes, or re-commit to a goal that may have slipped away from you.

Some potential things to work on over the Virgo lunar cycle include:

  • Health, diet, and physical wellness,
  • Mental and/or emotional wellness,
  • Spiritual health,
  • Life/work balance, or
  • A service-based cause/business that you are involved in.

You do not need to tackle all of these things.

Just pick one main thing to focus on over the next four weeks and focus on tiny changes rather than massive overhauls to your existing routine.

For health and diet, commit to drinking a daily green smoothie, or cut added sugars from your diet.

For mental/emotional health, balance your day with some self-care.

For spiritual wellness, create or refresh your sacred space, and do our Magick Morning routine.

For some work/life balance, take a good look at your schedule and set boundaries between work time and down time.

If you are involved in a service-based business or cause (or if you take care of family members), be sure to schedule in things that restore your energy.

New Moon In Virgo Correspondences

Here are a list of correspondences to help amplify your magickal workings during the New Moon in Virgo:

Element: Earth (Virgo is an earth sign).

Season: Late summer, beginning of autumn (The Virgo New Moon occurs during the late summer, opposite the Virgo Full Moon, which happens during late winter).

Candle Color: White (purification), yellow-green, green.

Crystals/Stones: Black moonstone is my favorite crystal to work with during a new moon.

I have a black moonstone sphere that I meditate with. It represents the energy of the new moon – new beginnings, fresh starts, and re-birth.

Additional stones to work with during the Virgo New Moon include green kyanite, jade, jasper, peridot, clear quartz, diamond, and carnelian.

Herbs/Tea: Rosemary, lavender, and mugwort are associated with the sign of Virgo.

During the Virgo New Moon, mugwort, goldenrod, and chrysanthemums are also in bloom and at their peak, so I’ll often work with those.

Essential Oils/Incense: Rosemary, lavender, eucalyptus, vetiver, and tea tree oils are my favorites to use during a Virgo moon.

Animal: Some animals that I associate with the Virgo moon include Wolf (finding your way/serving your pack), Lynx (finding strength in solitude), Snow Leopard (tapping into intuition).

New Moon In Virgo Rituals

Here are a few rituals that you can do under the Virgo New Moon:

1) Virgo New Moon Tarot

The tarot card associated with Virgo is The Hermit (IX).

The Hermit represent turning inward for guidance. Rather than getting caught up in the noise of everyone else’s opinions, we should instead quiet ourselves and focus on the light of wisdom we each carry within ourselves.

Ultimately, we know our truth, but we need to withdraw temporarily from time to time to check in with that truth for guidance.

A simple New Moon in Virgo tarot spread might include placing the Hermit card down in front of you.

Then pull two additional, random cards from the deck. Place one to the right of The Hermit and the other to the left.

The one on the left is what will support your intention. It could be a person, a behavior, or a new way to think about your goal.

The card on the right shows you the action you need to take to turn that intention into a goal you can manifest in your life.

2) Self-Care

What do you picture when you think of “self-care”?

Is it a full day at a spa? Or perhaps a weekend away with no distractions?

Self-care doesn’t require lots of time sequestered away from the hustle of everyday life.

It doesn’t require expensive pampering, either.

While these things can help if you have the time and can afford them, they aren’t necessary.

Self-care is most effective when it is integrated into your daily routine. Each activity can take as little as 5-10 minutes.

If you do a few small things for yourself every day, they will do more to balance and restore your energy over time.

During the Virgo New Moon, pick on of our favorite self care rituals that take less than 10 minutes and do it!

My Garden At The New Moon In Virgo

The Virgo New Moon occurs when my garden is just past its summer peak. However, there are plenty of fall-blooming plants such as goldenrod, helenium, and mums. Asters are just about to open their buds.

Many of my annuals like zinnias and marigolds are still going strong.

Mugwort is also at its peak now, since I typically harvest it during the first week of September to make smudge sticks, sachets, infused oils, and tinctures – and I’m crafting all of these things during the Virgo New Moon.

All of the herbs/plants I’ve mentioned can be dried and stored for use during your Full Moon in Virgo rituals six months from now.
