For those who use moon cycles in spiritual or self-growth work, the New Moon is a time to set intentions and make a fresh start.
The astrological sign of Sagittarius is associated with adventure, taking a risk, trying something new, and getting out of your comfort zone.
Sagittarius is depicted as an archer. While you need to take steps to make sure your aim is true, you gotta let go of that bow string – and now is the time to finally do that if you’ve put it off too long!
Paired with Sagittarius energy, the New Moon this month encourages you to shake things up in your life right now.
Stop settling for what you are willing to tolerate, and start building a life you truly want – even if that means taking a leap, or stepping out of your comfort zone.
It was during a Sagittarius new moon two years ago when Tracy stepped out of her comfort zone to get her transformational life coaching certification.
Tracy and I also took some initial steps during last year’s Sagittarius moon toward re-launching our online shop, which is now shipping orders regularly!
Be sure that you have cleared space in your life to receive what you want. But don’t just wait around for the Universe to drop it at your feet.
New Moon In Sagittarius Correspondences
Element: Fire (Sagittarius is a fire sign.)
Season: Late Autumn/Early Winter (The New Moon in Sagittarius occurs when the sun is in Sagittarius – between November 22 and December 21.)
Candle Color: Red, orange.
Crystals/Stones: I like to work with black moonstone during new moons.
Additionally, consider working with golden topaz, fire agate, fire opal, and carnelian.
Herbs/Tea: Cinnamon, clover, sage, clove.
Essential Oils/Incense: Cinnamon, clove, peppermint, Siberian fir, balsam.
Animal: The animals that I personally associate with the sign of Sagittarius are animals that wait in ambush and shoot when the time is right.
Archer fish (which shoot water up at land insects), or net-casting spiders (who wait to drop a webby net on passing prey), or even chameleons with their long, fast tongues that catch prey are all examples.
To me, these animals represent moderation, focus, patience, and skill.
Other Earth Magical Items: Stone arrowheads, or crystals that come to a point. Pointed wands.
New Moon In Sagittarius Rituals
Here are a few rituals that you can do under the Sagittarius New Moon:
1) Sagittarius New Moon Tarot
The tarot card associated with Sagittarius is Temperance (XIV).
While Sagittarius is depicted as an archer, and associated with adventure and risk taking, there is a fair amount of temperance required to hone one’s skills in so that seizing opportunities and taking risks are successful.
The Temperance card is about moderation, self-control, blending ideas – all things that are necessary to ensure your aim is true.
For simple Intention/Action tarot spread for the New Moon in Sagittarius, place The Temperance card down in front of you, then pull two random cards from the deck. Place one to the right of the Temperance card and the other to the left.
2) Take A Sagittarius Adventure
Under the New Moon in Sagittarius, try something adventurous and out of your comfort zone. You could:
- Take an improv class, or try aerial yoga or trapeze. =)
- Make a big ask – ask for that pay raise, or negotiate a work-from-home agreement…or book some job interviews if you’ve thought about switching careers lately.
- Try cooking a brand new recipe that you’ve never made before, or cook a favorite recipe a different way.
My Garden At The New Moon In Sagittarius
My garden is in full hibernation by the New Moon in Sagittarius. Since asters have an astrological association with this sign, I may use the dried flowers that I harvested a couple months prior in my new moon rituals.
Since the Full Moon in Sagittarius happens during the summer, when my garden is abundant, I may use some herbs that I harvested under the full moon as an offering to set intentions for the coming year.
